I really wanted this to work. Is there a way that I can change the Feature
location e.g through a custom action?

Assuming that you're using WixUI, all it does is publish a Reset control event.
The MSI SDK doc describes the limits: It undoes property changes. Feature
directories aren't properties, so Reset probably won't do the trick.
I'd go so far as to suggest dropping WixUI_Mondo -- even picky users rarely use
the ability to redirect features.
