Features and components both have "state" information which indicate the
current state [status] and requested action of the feature / component.

WI allows applications [or portions of an application] to run directly from a
network share without the need for the application to be installed on a local
machine [of course, assuming the application supports this, etc...]. This is
what you refer to as "Run from Source".
What you refer to as "Run from Local" means pretty much just that...the feature
will be installed locally on the machine.
I don't have an easy to understand WiX sample for this (not sure if someone
already might have blogged on this)
