After reading the following thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/114165/how-to-implement-wix-installer-upgrade (last comment on Rob Mensching's reply) I got the impression that in wix 3.6 you will be able to do Minor upgrades using burn, even if you have your Product Id set to "*"
