I have a custom MBA that I have been using and I would now like to make a lightweight web bootstrapper which will download the packages that need to be installed. I thought you would get that for free with the underlying bootstrapper engine by simply specifying the download url in the bundle, but I guess I was wrong.
I tried subscribing to the ResolveSource event to get a package's download url and download it to the local source location, but it seems like at that point it's too late in the process as my installation still fails with an error "Failed to resolve source for file: <path_to_local_source> " (even though the download is successful). I've tried other hacks like getting the WixBundleProviderKey burn variable and downloading the source to where the bootstrapper would normally unpack the files, but I haven't had any luck. Is such functionality available for those who wish to use a custom MBA? What am I missing? I am using WiX 3.7.
