I use Wix to install drivers but only USB/HID drivers which are straight forward.
The <difx:Driver> element goes with the component with <File> element of the inf file. Other driver components do not need the difx element. You need this: xmlns:difx="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wix/DifxAppExtension"; And you need to add x32 or x64 difxapp extension depending on bitness of driver. But looks like you already know this?
