"SourceFile" is consistently used throughout the WiX toolset as the "location to the source on your build machine where the bits that need to be included in the resulting package need to be found." IIRC, the only place where "SourceFile" is not used to mean a build machine path is on the File element, where just "Source" is used since the "File" part of "SourceFile" seemed redundant (but debated that for a while).
In WiX v1 the attribute "SourceFile" attribute was called "src" but everyone thought that just looked weird. The "Name" attribute on files is also regularly used to allow you to change the *installed* name of a file based thing. Payloads are a bit unique in that they also allow you to put relative paths in them. Design limitations of the Windows Installer generally prevent us from using relative paths in the "Name" attributes even though it'd be nice in some cases.
