I tried it again tonight and it's working just fine. The WIX variable is there. I'm not sure what happened before. But I won't worry about it. I had installed Visual Studio Express just before installing WiX (knowing that it doesn't work on Express, but wanting to make sure that it /still /doesn't work). But I'm sure that's not it. I won't dwell on it.
