I don't know if this comment relates to your concern, but, after some experimentation, I have interpreted the last paragraph in Remarks, at the following link to indicate that my Icon/@Id should be formated with an extension which is the same as the file which the shortcut targets. So even though my icon is in an .ico file, I author the Id as: <Icon Id="MyAppIcon.exe" SourceFile="MyAppIcon.ico" />
