I have large DVD size setups authored in Installscript, which I am converting
to wix. I have moved most of the applications to individual msi packages,
batch built in seven languages, with external cabs. These packages are used
in multiple bundles for different types of product configurations (clients,
servers, drivers, SDK products), and staged on a web site. The burn driven
downloadable setups, where each separate msi is equivalent to what I used to
think of as a sub-feature in Installshield, is working great for me. I
still have a ways to go to get all products converted, but I have enough of
them converted to be confident that separating applications into user
selectable msi packages that are downloadable and advertised is the way to
go for my situation. Shared code is in wixlibs which really simplifies my
project management and speeds the build process. I am impressed at how fast
the wix 3.9 source builds, compared to 3.8, so I am working on improving my
build process to implement similar improvements (I hope).
