Use of $(var.Platform) and $(var.SolutionDir) in my wix sources is generating the following compiler errors.
Undefined preprocessor variable '$(var.Platform)'. Undefined preprocessor variable '$(var.SolutionDir)'." Search hits reference http://wixtoolset.org/documentation/manual/v3/votive/votive_project_referenc es.html suggesting it's still supported.
