Look at the CompilerExtension code in wix\ that processes User element. It probably doesn't support extension attributes today.

At a higher level my plan was to figure out how to use a semi-custom action, based on Bob's blog to modify the information related to user account in the msi db at runtime. The reason is that when I install a service I may or may not actually need to create the user, and depending on whether the passed in account name is our default name I would want to hide it from the welcome screen. Some other account name should not be hidden from the welcome screen (and a few other business tweaks at run time).
