Apologize as this is a bit off-topic - actually it is a general MSI question. However, I couldn't find any other forum on the net to ask this question. Also, this has been asked a few years ago in this forum, but there was only one quite fuzzy answer. BTW, I'm only interested in MSI 5+.
I'm wondering what happens if power fails during the 'deferred' Phase of an MSI Installation. More specific, some of the scheduled changes to the system have already been made, some not. One could imagine several behaviors in this case: - After restart, the system looks like nothing has changed at all (perhaps implemented by using the transactional features of NTFS ?) - After restart, MSI notices it has been interrupted, and automatically restores to a 'System Restore Point' it has produced during the installation. - After restart, MSI notices it has been interrupted, and automatically performs a rollback - After restart, MSI notices it has been interrupted, and automatically continues the installation - After restart, MSI notices the user (in some way), that something went wrong. - After restart, nothing happens at all. The 'half done' installation is silently left in place. - Anything else.. Actually, I'm asking two Questions : Which of this behaviors does MSI exhibit by default ? Is it even possible to alter the default behavior via a WiX setup, and in which ways ?
