As I wrote before, if you want to use WindowMaker as an
environment for mostly GNUstep-based apps the little
"improvements" discussed here would be annoying. At this
time I have WindowMaker and GNUstep configured to use the
same colours, fonts etc., so that the applications integrate
absolutely seamlessly. "Modernised" dialogues, scrollbars
etc. would put an end to that.

Speaking as a user more than as a developer here I'd like
to be able to always keep GNUstep's and WindowMaker's look
and feel in sync (though I know that currently this can
only be done by configiguring, i.e. there's no technical
connection as would be needed between those two worlds).
