Naively it didn't work here. Although the labels now appear in the wmgenmenu.pot and are msgmerge'd correctly into de.po (the translation I have to test), the translated labels don't appear when running wmgenmenu. This is odd, and maybe I am doing something wrong. But I checked that changing the other "non-label" strings indeed work, so it is definitely about the new labels.
