Gridding things out and maximize to available space...

I loved the feature in gnome with compiz fusion to be able to grid 
things, that is...
cntrl+alt+numpad key would move windows to various parts of the screen 
and sizes.  I still tend to do that out of habit because it was so nice 
and quick.
Another feature would be to maximize windows to there available space 
without overlaping any new windows.
