I was also considering adding native support for XDG Menus, but
that's another story for later.
Yes, IMO probably move to XDG is good [1]. Is an standard, we can use
other tools to configure it, is used by other wm,... If I remember,
OpenSuse is using xdg for the menu generation (but I am not sure). But
the change is bigger.
