I'd like to put it my two cents and ask that you retain funcitonality with 
non-PAM systems. I know that several/most of the ALT-linux patches have to do 
with PAM. My system doesn't use PAM at all, so I avoid using the PAM patches -I 
haven't tried applying them but disabling PAM to see whether WDM still works.
I agree with previous persons about retaining compatibility with other OS's, 
even though I run only Linux. I've been using WDM and WindowMaker for 10 years 
now.
