I've wrote some more patches, hopefully improving the default behavior.

Now the lcd brightness is managed only if the --backlight option is given.

Furthermore, the minimum (default 20%) and maximum (default 100%)
lcd brightness values can be changed dinamically. 

Manually changing the brightness while on minimum (ie if on battery
and X session idle) sets the new minimum value. Note that you need to
plan ahead in order to change it, since if you decide to type while
on 20% brightness the X session will no longer be idle and wmlaptop2
will return to maximum brightness.

Similarly, manually changing the brightness while on maximum sets the
new maximum value to be used afterwards.

Most of the code related to managing the keyboard backlight comes from
