chrome acts like it's gnome app

I just installed ubuntu 14.04 on a laptop I recently acquired.
% wmaker --version
Window Maker 0.95.5
# dpkg -l | grep wmaker
ii  wmaker 0.95.5-2ubuntu1                                     amd64 
NeXTSTEP-like window manager for X
ii  wmaker-common 0.95.5-2ubuntu1                                     
all Window Maker - Architecture independent files


When I launch chrome, I can't grab it or move it with the mouse.  It 
looks and acts like it's a gnome application.   WTF?

Got any suggestions?
