I suppose you could add a line to wmiirc which selects your previous
view right after.

Seems like it. I have to say I like this behaviour a bit better, since
you can emulate the instant zoom (MODKEY-m) feature of wmii-2 a bit
easier this way, but it might be a good idea to make this configurable,
if that's possible.
