On the desktop I don't care too much about that, but I wasn't sure if -- given that load average doesn't necessarily represent the amount of CPU usage --- whether this would have a noticeable affect on battery run down rate. I meant to do some experiments to look at this, but I haven't been on any trips recently :-(
