Ted Kennedy's Family "On Alert" radaronline.com 02/20/09 Ted Kennedy's health is deteriorating and family members have been put "on alert," according to exclusive new information learned by RadarOnline.com. The Massachusetts Senator, who's battling brain cancer, plans on celebrating his 77th birthday this Sunday. Earlier this month, he and his wife Vicki left Boston for an undisclosed location in Florida so that he can continue his physical rehab in warmer weather. "The realization has set in that this is likely Ted's last birthday and it's brought an outpouring of emotion in the closely-knit family of which Ted is the patriarch," a close source told RadarOnline.com. "As Ted has fallen into a weak and deteriorating condition, Vicki has asked family members to keep his birthday 'low key,' but with the Kennedys that is unlikely to happen." Sources also told RadarOnline.com that Kennedy family members have become "further alarmed" over his condition following a report in today's issue of the Boston Herald newspaper, which quoted a source as saying he may only have a few months to live. "Time is of the essence," said the Herald source. "It's very sad." The newspaper quoted a second Kennedy associate as saying: "He's very sick. He's actually done well to get to this point." The Boston Herald reports Ted's wife Vicki may be in line to take his seat in the Senate. But the close source told us "No one in the family wants to think about who will succeed Ted at this point.. that's down the road. "Our hearts are with Ted now and seeing him enjoy each day he has left."
