http://www.wwj.com/Comedian-Soupy-Sales-Dies/5503348 Detroit comedian Soupy Sales died Thursday evening at a hospice in New York, longtime friend and former manager Dave Usher said. Sales was 83. Sales, who was born Milton Supman in North Carolina, moved to Detroit in the early 50's. He was a longtime fixture on WXYZ-TV where he starred in "Soupy's On" and "Lunch with Soupy Sales." In 2005, Sales was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Sales was one of the first real stars to take hold on Detroit television. He spent nearly 50 years on television and may be Detroit's most recognizable, original stars. WWJ Producer and author Tim Kiska wrote in his book "A Newscast for the Masses" that Sales "popularized the comedic device of being hit in the face with a pie." Kiska says Soupy did a lot for Detroit and will be missed. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "World News Now Discussion List" group.
