You know, what the Grand Inconvenience made me think of was that late 19th century prediction from whats-his-name about how in the far future there'd be radio-telephones for everybody and you'd call out the name of a friend and find out he was on some distant continent or the ocean floor or whatnot, or maybe he wouldn't answer at all, and that would be your clue that he was dead.
I was amazed how fast it was a nuisance, though. I only experienced a couple hours of it and found too much stuff I needed to check bothersomely scattered. Wikipedia has its faults but it at least has this reasonably uniform organization of data that makes it easier than independent pages you have to go *reading* to make use of.
