Saw him at a Reds-at-Indians spring training game in Winter Haven
probably seven or eight springs ago. Although I gather he was a
near-constant presence hitched to the Tribe during Grapefruit League
seasons for many years, there was still a line for autographs.

As for MLBTV tonight, it's the closest fans like me will ever get to
seeing our Buccos win a World Series. I did remark to a friend that
this couldn't be the broadcast as it was seen by viewers in 1960 --
because how could they tell whether the game would be followed by an
all-new episode of Bones without the aid of on-screen graphics? On
the other hand, hearing Mel Allen call the game makes it seem like not
so very long ago. I feel lucky to have been born juuuust early enough
that my early childhood was still defined by the four-channel
universe... so Allen's voice takes me back to Saturday middays in an
instant.

We had 'em all the way.
