Lynn "Empire Carpet Guy" Hauldren Passes Away

ad news for those of us who grew up with the Empire Carpet jingle in our heads through years of watching local television. Elmer Lynn Hauldren, best known as the Empire Carpet Man, passed away at the age of 89.

Mr. Hauldren was an ad copywriter for Empire when he wrote the now-ubiquitous jingle and began playing the role of the Empire Carpet Man in commercials in 1973, and his image lives on in commercials, animations and bobble head toys. This Chicagoist post from 2006 fills in the blanks on other aspects of Mr. Hauldren's life. Now let's play the jingle one more time.
