It was interesting tracking the coverage of the S&P downgrade of U.S. debt yesterday. Bloomberg Television had an early advantage, because they had a reporter with a satellite link at an economics retreat in Maine. This has got to be the most productive staking-out of a fishing hole in journalistic history! :-) And CNN once again showed that having an anchor ready to jump into the chair (ANDERSON COOPER, in this case) is a really good thing when news breaks late on a Friday night. The one surprising hole in the coverage was business network CNBC, which, I believe, stuck to its prerecorded schedule. I guess on weekends they lock up that place tight, and rely on sister-network MSNBC to fill in.
