ABC veteran Sam Donaldson waives arraignment in Lewes DUI case

Authorities say Sam Donaldson, a veteran ABC News reporter and former White House correspondent who was charged with drunken driving earlier this month in Lewes has waived his arraignment.

Donaldson, 78, was stopped for a traffic violation on Savannah Road shortly before 8 p.m. Dec. 1. When officers suspected Donaldson had been drinking, he was given standard field sobriety tests, Lewes police said.

Donaldson was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to remain within a single lane. He was later released pending his appearance in court.

Court officials said today that Donaldson waived the arraignment set for Friday. The case has not yet been scheduled for trial.
