George Michael, the singer who rocketed to fame with the ’80s duo Wham! before 
embarking on a solo career, dies at 53

The singer’s publicist confirmed his death in a statement to multiple media 
outlets. 

Among George Michael’s hits as a duo and solo artist were “Careless Whisper,” 
“Father Figure” and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” A 2011 article in The Post 
on a reissued version of “Faith,” his solo debut, called the album “a blueprint 
for future generations of boy band singers looking for a way out.”
