A couple of folk have asked, so...

I zig zag back and forth between my NYC apartment
and my wife's (our...) house near Ann Arbor, MI.

I was in NY, saw the initial reports, had a bad feeling,
so left NYC and headed west.

(I've got a passing familiarity with medicine,
epidemiology, public health...)

The three of us are fine and healthy, and watching
Rachel every night. (My wife, and I, and
our lovable Shelty)

Supplies of a couple of items are a bit messy
(had to go to five stores before finding some
chlorine bleach [a]) but basics are all fine.

Hell, there's even a giant Georgia Pacific
factory about 15 miles from here. I don't
know if they currently make toilet paper
but I'm sure they could switch over...

I'd be a _lot_ more concerned if I was in
NYC. Not so much for the illness, but
the spiralling down of trucking.

Long distance trucking is down about 50 pct.
Or worse...

Here near Ann Arbor there's enough local food and
other production that yeah, getting oranges
from a Brazilian farm -> ocean freighter ->
some port or another -> 750 miles of trucking,
well, that's going to get sticky. But other
stuff pretty much ok.

But if NYC loses 90 pct of truck traffic, it's
going to be messy.

And that can happen any minute.

Especially when truckers, who are already
saying they don't want to go to that plague
town, get word of shit like:

https://cdllife.com/2020/report-nypd-towed-semis-while-drivers-slept-amid-coronavirus-emergency/

NYPD 66th Precinct tweets about how proud they are that they towed
illegally parked trailers...which were parked where they were because the
truckers driving them needed to sleep while transporting needed goods to
NYC. So now instead of getting food to grocery stores they had to spend
time and money getting their trailers out of the impound lot.

NYPD 66th precint has since deleted the tweet.

[a] no, we weren't end of world stockpiling. Just
down to a few ounces in our regular gallon
