I think it’s been more than a couple years by now… there was a period when they weren’t letting Canadians try out because the website for the online tryouts wasn’t compliant with new Canadian online privacy laws. But they finally got the Sony lawyers on the case, properly updated the website, and they’ve had occasional Canadians ever since.
Of course, Canadians currently aren’t allowed to participate due to travel restrictions. (They haven’t even allowed contestants from outside California this season.
