Minutes
1. Open Action Items - Lawrence Mandel
2005-06-20: Lawrence and John will review the open bugs for blocking interop problems.
2005-06-27:
Lawrence: Woden-1 and Woden-2 need to be fixed before the interop event. The rest of the validation Jiras would be very nice to have.
John: Woden-13 and Woden-18 are for failures to the component model interchange. I'll also take a look at the rest of the failures to see which other failures can be grouped with the existing bugs.
Closed.
2. M6 Status - John Kaputin
M6 is currently scheduled for July 29. Please voice any concerns over this date on the woden-dev list.
3. Interoperability Status - Lawrence Mandel
Note: Interop status was discussed as part of the open action item.
4.StAX Parser Implementation - Lawrence Mandel
Oshani: I sent a patch to woden-dev with an initial version of StAX. Has anyone had a chance to take a look.
John: Sorry, no.
Oshani: In DOMWSDLReader, reading schema for schema is causing problems. Is this necessary?
Lawrence: This is used to import the implicitly available XML schema simple types. This should be removed for a more elegant and performant solution. Please open a Jira with any specific issues you have.
Oshani: How will Woden support DOM and StAX in the future? One model or two?
John: There should only be one API. You can specify a different factory to the WSDLReader.
Oshani: I found the extension deserializer depends on DOM.
John: Yes. I'll have to clean that up.
Arthur: There's also an issue that some WSDL elements can contain arbitrary XML. How are we handling that?
John: We don't have a solution for this yet.
Arthur: What is so bad about having a DOM element? Can it represent arbitrary XML?
John: Is it possible when using StAX to parse the content into DOM elements?
Arthur: DOM is just an interface.
Oshani: I'll have to look into this.
John: I'd also be interested in your ideas of how to represent mixed type elements in Woden.
Arthur: We may want to preserve arbitrary unknown extensions as well. My feeling is we should just use the DOM API instead of reinventing the same functionality.
5. Other Business - Open
John: Can we clarify why we have a dependency on Xerces?
Lawrence: No schema parsing in Crimson which is included in Sun 1.4.x JRE, advanced URI resolution, better validation, caching features.
Arthur: We can use graceful degradation instead of least common denominator.
Lawrence: I think we should leave this on the back burner until a request is made to swap out the DOM parser.
Note: Next week's status call is cancelled due to the W3C interop event. Any issues should be brought up on the woden-dev list. If we need a call for an urgent matter we will schedule one.
Thanks,
Lawrence Mandel
