The Max Havelaar novel is the reflection about political and social situation
in Banten in the present. He was representing the poor farmers (even in
Indonesia ). Just read, We are happy not because of we are harvesting the rice
farm, but we are so excited because we are harvesting rice farm that we growth,
and we are live not because we are given money, but we have right to get the
money because we are working.
I can get the point. Until now, so many farmers in Banten that no longer
again having a farm. They sold it (even with force and intimidation) to
industrial business. Rice farm converted to a factory chimneys. Fresh air turns
to polluted smoke. The farmers then buy a bike to used as public transportation
(called Ojek), build a grocery, and doing a Hajj Pilgrim.....
