During the years of trade development Banten was visited by multitude of
nations from as far afield Malacca, Thai, China, Vietnam, India and Arab. Its
importence lied in its position as an entreport for sea traffic from Asia lands
to Java and other parts of Indonesian archipelago..
Special research of archaeology and exploration resulted a clearer outline of
the Old Banten in the past. Peices of terracotta wares were collected and
reconstructed, some recognized from Thai, Japan, Vietnam and China, proved
evidence of an international activity. Other results of the exploration
revealed a big society of settlement groups-each was devided into sub units of
community complexs.
Banten subsequent history is closely associated with the begining of changes.
The coming of Moslems from the coastal Islam Kingdoms of Demak in Central Java
and Cirebon on the border between West and Central Java made Banten
dramatically developed. The focus of activity was then moved from Banten Girang
on the south of Serang today to Banten on the north coast, to facilities
communications among the coastal Moslem kingdoms and to place the emphasis on
more developing a sea-going trading economy rather than an agrarian land-based
