Howdy folks, I have thoroughly tested the WP plugin in Wordpress and WPMU, works a treat! Can see it in action at http://lrt.mmu.ac.uk/test4/ I've tried putting a number of different Widgets in different test blogs, no conflicts whatsoever. Only issues, and I have to say this is something that plagues WP anyway - is making sure you have a nice theme to put them in. One or two especially inflexible themes don't work too well. Thanks for all efforts again!
