Hazelnut Fried Mushrooms

2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/3 cup ground hazelnuts
1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
1 pound mushrooms, washed and dried
solid all vegetable shortening for deep frying

In small bowl, slightly beat eggs with salt, pepper
and nutmeg. In separate bowl, mix together hazelnuts
and bread crumbs. Dip mushrooms in egg mixture, then
coat with hazelnut mixture. Heat shortening to 365F in
deep pan and fry mushrooms, a few at a time, 6 to 7
minutes or until golden brown on all sides. Drain on
paper towel and sprinkle with additional salt, if
desired. 4 to 6 servings.
