I am looking for a recorded speech by Mrs. Wu Yi, regarding the consequences of a trading war USA-China. I did not find yet the article that I have into my mind. But I am finding nice memories.
On 2006-12-15 China Daily published picture #1, Mrs. Wu and Mr. Paulson shake hands, the footer of that picture was China will pursue exchange rate reform while the United States will aim to boost national savings in a drive to promote balanced growth, in another part of the article, citing the final press conference Mr. Paulson told "China will carry out the exchange rate regime reform and the United States will increase saving rates so as to promote balanced and strong growth and prosperity in two nations,". How good would have been if to boost national savings would have been part of US macroeconomic policy instead of "shopping and tax cuts". Maybe we would not be suffering this crisis so early. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2006-12/15/content_760193_3.htm The speech or article that I have on my mind, was about this issue. China rejects US criticism of post-WTO performance http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchina/2006-12/14/content_759054.htm The comments that I have in my mind happened in that period, September-December 2006. I do not recall the type of media (TV, newspaper, etc.), whether it was her direct speech or an article citing her (that I did not find now), I do not recall the language either. Sorry. About a posible trade war China-USA,, basically, Mrs. Wu told that China has currently a huge room to rise domestic comsumption to counterbalance falls of exports in case, US authorities would rise tariffs. Also, China could create tarriffs on exports without breaking WTO rules, and then asked her counter part (while her counterpart was not present) Could US corporations assume a rise in the price of all imported parts and finished goods from China while their competitors from Europe and Japan enjoy lower fees in the same parts and finished goods?. I must confess that I admired Mrs. Wu Yi. She had to deal one of the most turbulent periods in the USA-China relations. She did it with respect and accuracy while she gained deep respect from the other side. Unfortunately, obviously, I just followed those relations through media, I could not be more involved on it, I would have learnt so much if I would have been part of such work groups. Peace and best wishes. Xi --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "World-thread" group.
