Yes. To socialize social expenses for everybody and from everybody. No other way to compete in global markets.
One or two years ago US economy was still on time to cut inflation by cutting Federal deficits and not breaking global markets. US economy had still margin at that time to fight and win against Japanese and Germans in that arena, US prices are extremely high for the real wealth and purchasing power of Americans, US economy can cut a lot, while Germans and Japanese cannot. I am not an expert on auto industry in particular (nor in any other in particular) but I think that most people around the world do not expect that US automaker live much longer. Such lack of trust, even if not based on facts, will make impossible long term agreements. I disagree in that point with the blogger of the link that I posted. If SAIC would meet today to GM executives, `probably they would not sign any partnership agreement. I guess that today other countries prefer Volkswagen or Toyota before GM, therefore GM loses the best local partners in the "global car" market, as opposite to what the blogger told. Of course, mine is just one opinion among many. This industry probably reflects the whole industry, at least related to durable goods. Peace and best wishes.
