Xi, Hope things are well with you. I didn't know you were still around.
I finally made it to Shanghai and Nanjing last Sept. I was there for a week and really enjoyed it. The flight over from Barcelona was a bit errr..... "bumpy" but I found the Chinese people to be wonderful. The food was amazing and right off the bat I learned the general rule that if you like it don't ask what it is. I honestly didn't find an instance where I didn't like was I was eating. And I tried "everything" be it feast, fowl, fish or even if it...errr... wore a collar at some point. I was a bit paranoid arriving in Shanghai, and instantly thought I could even taste the pollution. After 6 hours or so I didn't notice it, so either I was imagining it or simply got used to it. Shanghia is a stunning city, particularly at night. I think there are more lights in Shanghai then in Las Vegas. Nanjing was just a delightful, but in a different way. The industrial site itself was pretty much as I envisioned. Much haze/pollution, but Nanjing itself is very green and fertile appearing. I was there only 2 days, but did get to see a few things. Afterwards when I was doing my expense reports I was almost stunned at the prices of the cabs. Nothing was over a few bucks or so USD! I paid 40 rmb for a diet coke in a restaurant, but yet like 20 or 15 rmb for a cab ride! It was very interesting talking to the Chinese consultants. Most had been in China all their lives. We compared stories we were told growing up; i.e., I was told that the commies were going to conqure America and take my toys basically. They were told the same thing!!! Overall it was a great trip.
