My comment: Since the G20 meeting in Washington, there is a partly
open, partly hidden debate in China and abroad about our true
responsibilities.

High authorities repeat again and again that their first
responsibility is toward their own people, that is true of course.
They also repeat again and again that China is not big enough to turn
the direction of the global economy, that is true, of course, China
alone cannot turn it. But that is not answer enough. Can China grow in
a sustainable way if the rest of the world would decline? We all
agree, no, we cannot.

On the other hand, US, and somehow European authorities too, do not
watch at China, but just at its foreign reserves. That is true, China
´s foreign reserves are crucial to turn this crisis. But that is not
answer enough. It is blindness.

Without arrogance, without self-praise, without "go, go, go China #1"
feelings we have to watch at ourselves and realise that not only China
has changed, the world has changed too, and therefore our place into
it and our relation with it. We have to be realistic, not just humble.

Facts are proving that the more China involves its economy into other
countries the better both sides develop. Swap mechanisms, free trade
agreements, loans, etc. with other countries are turning the situation
in those countries in Southern and Southweastern Asia, Africa and
Latinamerica from recession to moderate hope and even rebound in some
cases.

It is true that domestic demand in China is boosting rebound in the
economies that are open to higher exchange levels with China. But that
is not enough, that is not a temporary phenomenon. Not forgetting that
we have to achieve a better balance of our economy, also, we have to
accept that, as the biggest country in terms of population, more and
more China´s economic demand will help growth in those economies that
want to cooperate closer and closer with China.

Chinese overseas can play an additional new role, a profitable
business too. Not just to promote China´s export as they did in the
past, but also to bring into China the best of the breed wherever it
can be. And always with the same long-term partnership mind that they
have treated exports before, because this new flow of goods and
services toward China will grow along decades and probably centuries.

Peace and best wishes.

Xi
