My comment: Some days ago I received sort of "nationalistic" message from an American in Youtube that could be interesting for others too. Basically he questionned that Japan is in phase 3 while USA is in phase 2.
Here is that video again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ5FSqR8j2o >From his perspective, and from most Western economists, Japan is in phase 2 as well. This American economist cannot believe that the old statement "when US economy catchs a cold, the world suffers a pneumonia" is completely obsolete nowadays. Nowadays, when US economy catches a pneumonia, some economies catches as pneumonia as well, others just a cold, and others just a moderate headache. US economy is not different, same would happen if Europe, or Japan or China or many others would suffer a pneumonia. As that video says, I show the situation September 2009. It will evolve along next months. Therefore, I try to show that the situation in September 2009 in USA and in Japan are completely different. When I recorded that video I had not statistic data available from media. Now I have indicators that show that differences updated to September 2009. Japan’s Jobless Rate Unexpectedly Falls From Record http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aPHPn9t7VOFA U.S. Employers Cut More Jobs Than Forecast; Unemployment Rises http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=a6MO1rAhPYGA I hope that now they can see the difference between Japan and USA. I should add that the header "Japan’s Jobless Rate Unexpectedly Falls" should be "Japan’s Jobless Rate Unexpectedly -for Western economists- Falls". Again my advises for Western economists: 1) do not watch any more insulated economies, the global economy does not work like that since long ago. And 2) do not overestimate the influence of any economy in general and the US economy in particular, size matters but trends matters much more. Do not understimate other economies any more. US economy pushes Japan economy down, but China economy pushes Japan economy up. If we add Japan efforts the result is that Japan goes up. Unfortunately for US economy, they still try to insulate its own economy therefore it cannot take advange of recovery around the world as much as they could. US centric monetaristic economics has many disadvantages, this is just one of them. I hope that Western economists understand that this global economy is more cooperation than competition. Although both are and will be in place actually. Peace and best wishes.
