Chinese factories cannot take any measures beyond what were in place
before they Mattel issues. Toys, and all goods, are designed and
defined by detailed requirements from brands such as Mattel. If they
require one particular colour through one particular pantone code,
they, Mattel, know how that colour in particular has to be produced.
Example follows.

If you want to produce a toy-ring that looks like gold you have two
options. 1) To produce it in gold, that obviously parents would not
buy for their child 2) To use lead or  other metals as base and to
taint those metals with a certain colour that will make them look like
gold. Lead is the cheaper metal. Then they make it powder and use that
powder to taint the toy. The higher amount of tainted lead, the more
it looks like gold. Brands like Mattel define how they want the toy-
ring looks like and they know that better appearance means higher
amount of lead.

Mattel had a very good reason to apologize China for that issues. If
that woman does not want to understand that apology, she has a
problem, not China. To sink her head into the sand is not a good
policy to improve ourselves.

Mattel was smarter and changed its design policies, they learned. Now,
they restrict metal-alike toys.

At the end, there will be sort of consensus to set some international
standards. A reasonable amount of lead, and a reasonable gold, or
silver, or steel look. Until then nothing can be done.

Obviously, it does not mean at all that Chinese production is zero-
faults. China is the larger exporter in this planet. That means that
is the larger exporter of perfect goods and also the larger exporter
of faulty goods. It is a matter of statistics.

I think that woman meets what we call a China-hater. I met many mostly
Americans on the net, but also Europeans off-line. Two years ago, a
Chinese friend sent me an article that explains their problem. It is
related to frustration toward their own societies, they realize that
the promise that they were told (happiness, wealth, the American dream
and so on) is a lie. Unfortunately their mind cannot accept that they
never ever will make that promise real. They look for scapegoats in
the belief that if they destroy the scapegoat their dream will become
true.

Their scapegoats can be migrants from Mexico, Muslims, Chinese,
Republicans or Democrats depending on their ideology, etc. Probably
she fantasizes that when posting in your board she is destroying one
of her mental ghost-scapegoats. The scapegoat does not matter because
the problem is into their mind. Frustration, fear, ignorance, produce
hate in those poor people. Probably, it is impossible to make her see
the truth because she does not want to open her eyes to the truth.

Peace and best wishes.

Xi
