Follow-up Comment #3:
Fixed in revision 1490.
By default, autotools set CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS to -g -02. We now set g++ flags
entirely by configure.ac, previous (default) values of CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS are
ignored :-)
