Just my opinion : better than a miniature view, a zoom out.
Miniature view hide a part of map, we don't need to see map all the time,
miniature could be difficult to integrate in game interface.
Zoom out when you press m
Zoom could be gradual like actual camera svn movements. I think it could be
fun
