Follow-up Comment #2, bug #11636 (project wormux):
I'm tracing back this to:

Try running in a shell metacity --replace
(no & to easily kill it)
then try the same scenario: in my case, I can now longer reproduce, so I
would say it is exactly the same thing happening, and compiz is the one
causing the regression.
