I also considered the Sandbox theme, which is a solid foundation and
from this perspective good candidate for a WordPress default theme. It
is gettexted and "Skins" are a more lightweigth layout mechanism than
creating a whole theme. ... so far for the theory. Most style
developers
prefer to create a whole new theme derived from Sandbox rather than
using the simple Skin mechanism.
And coming back to the original "Tellerrand"-issue: Where do I find a
good German translation of Sandbox? It's actually in Milan's list
and I
find sandbox.pot in the Internet, but you pointed out, that
translations
may vary in quality.
Christian, translating a theme once it is gettexed is an amazingly
simple job.
Unfortunatly the page in WP Codex about themes in your language,
which for sure you have read and probaly got frightened, makes it
sound like something only "experts" can do. Forget that.
So, once you have found a theme you like and made sure it is
gettexed, you can translate it yourself in very little time. Suchly
the translation will be totally up to your expectations and fine
tuned to your personal needs.
All you need is Poedit (google for it), an amazing little app which
comes for free both for Nix and Windows, and a good comand of the
language you want to translate into. Not even the POT file is necessary.
BTW you can find the POT for Sandbox online now because me and
others kept on bugging the Sandbox outher for it. Sandbox deserves
to be translated into German also, is is so pleasant to work with.
