I figured out my problem. It seems to have nothing to do with the deleted images (I had earlier cleared those entries from the db).

This is a wide-concerning problem, after all -- when you specify an apostrophe in the "title" field, it does not convert ' to ’, breaking the _javascript_.

Another image-related issue -- when you tell the _javascript_ menu to use original, it inserts original, but still sized-down to the size of the thumbnail. So, to actually use the original, I need to send it to editor as high-res, then click HTML and take out the width and height.

2.0 won't include a function to fix this and I won't even try to
replicate the error. I'll suggest some fixes:

Undo your mistake: replace the images (and anything else you changed)

Make WP forget: manually remove the db records that depend upon those images.
