I don't think it needs a plugin. Author profiles are displayed if themes have an available author.php file, and then using the URL (non-fancy-link 'cause one server I'm on doesn't support it) blogaddress.com/?author=1 (where 1 is the author #). I know the template K2 has it. Not sure about others.
