Sorry Ryan, I posted my answer before receiving your post. The problem seems to occur on 64 bit systems.

I just committed a fix for gettext line 66. The fix is in the 2.0 branch and trunk. Hopefully this will fix the localization loading problem you are experiencing. .mo files are being loaded fine for me.
