Hi There Wordpress Elves,
I just wanted to drop you a short note to say happy holidays.
I really like that you've gone to having release candidates and hope your
testing for these cycles becomes even more robust in 2008. This is a great
improvement.
For Wordpress 2.4, I have the following wishes:
1) When a trackback gets caught as spam by Akismet (or is this trackback
validator .71?) I really wish it didn't send an email for spam trackbacks -
when all comment notification is on.
2) plugin/theme backward compatibility or better coordination with plugin
writers and theme change transparency - I'm still running wordpress 2.1.3 (in
fact half the people I know are using this or an older version) because I know
that one of my plugins is still not 2.3 complaint. I'd like to suggest that
releasing 2.4 while many plugins still aren't 2.3 compliant risks a complete
meltdown of the plugin infrastructure and this is my largest area of concern. I
realize there is no easy solutions here. However if we focused on this issue -
it would eventually remove the last major pain point to getting everyone using
the latest and greatest version. Cool new features are nice but if people can't
upgrade painlessly, they are of questionable value. I hope we can make progress
on this issue in 2008 so that the community focus can shift to new feature
suggestion and admiration instead of upgrading problems, concerns and blog
abandonment.
Thanks again and happy holidays to all!!!
Sincerely,
David
